LIGHT EMITTING DEVICE HAVING PLANE FRESNEL LENS AND FABRICATION METHOD THEREOF

A light emitting device having a planar Fresnel lens and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to improve the light efficiency by easily integrating the planar Fresnel lens having a vertical profile through an etching process. Compound semiconductor layers(210,230) are formed on a substrate(100), and have a light emitting region. A planar Fresnel lens layer(300) is formed over the compound semiconductor layers to focus or diffuse the light emitted from the compound semiconductor layers. The planar Fresnel lens layer has concentric circle patterns having the same height which are formed by etching and are spaced apart from each other. The Fresnel lens layers have the same pitch, and are made of single transmissive material.
