A sewing machine and a controller of the sewing machine are provided to block or restrict the electric conduction of an X-axis driving motor or a Y-axis driving motor when a cloth-holding frame is not moved, thereby reducing the power consumption of the sewing machine. A sewing machine comprises a cloth-holding frame, an X-axis driving motor(40) and a Y-axis driving motor(42) for respectively moving the cloth-holding frame on a horizontal plane, and a position detector for detecting a position of the cloth-holding frame. When the position detector detects that at least one of the X-axis driving motor and the Y-axis driving motor is continuously stopped for a predetermined time, a conduction controller(30) blocks or restricts the electric conduction of the X-axis driving motor or the Y-axis driving motor.
