A method and a system for preventing a wrong recognition for the falling of a portable terminal are provided to minimize a wrong recognition for the falling of a portable terminal containing a hard disk in order to prevent the regeneration of contents from being stopped even though the portable terminal has never fallen. A portable terminal(100) containing a hard disk comprises the first fall detection module(110), an interface part(130), a comparison control module(120), and a hard disk control part(140). The first fall detection module(110) detects the displacement of the portable terminal(100) from its present location to a gravity-wise location, in case that a movement is generated, and outputs the first fall signal. The interface part(130) receives the second fall signal from the second fall detection module(150) which detects the displacement of an external output unit(170) from its present location to a gravity-wise location. The comparison control module(120) receives the first fall signal or the second fall signal and creates a comparison control signal. Based on the comparison control signal, the hard disk control part(140) controls the operation of the hard disk.
