An emotion expression apparatus of an intelligence robot for expressing emotion using status information and a method thereof are provided to exactly show a corresponding action in response to the emotional state of the robot. An emotion expression apparatus of an intelligence robot comprises plural sensors(120,160) that detect internal and external stimulation. A state information collector(200) collects external state information by hierarchically processing information on the internal and external stimulation. An emotional motive determiner(300) determines emotional needs motive using the external state information according to change in emotional needs. An emotional state maintaining unit(400) extracts information, which is available for solving the emotional needs motive, and state information. An emotion generator(500) generates emotional information based on a specific vale of the state information. An action determiner(600) determines action information for solving the emotional needs motive.
