The transducer is connected to an aerial (2), and surrounded by two edges or grooves cut directly in the substrate, where the edges or grooves are parallel to fingers of the transducer. Additional transducers are arranged on the substrate along directions respectively making an angle of 45 and 90 degrees with respect to direction of the SAW transducer. #CMT# : #/CMT# Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for etching grooves (2) a method for treating edge surface of a surface acoustic wave device. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Surface acoustic wave device for an electronic remote inquiry assembly and for use as a constraint measurement device (claimed) e.g. wired or wireless surface acoustic wave sensor to measure temperature, mechanical constraints such as pressure and deformation, mass, gas and radiation. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The utilization of the edges or grooves improves the reflection of surface acoustic waves, thus enabling the surface acoustic wave device to be used in wireless applications in extreme conditions.
