The core composition for silicate glass optical waveguide (2) in fiber optics, comprises a first component, a second component, a non-null third component (= 50 mol.%), a fourth component (= 40 mol.%) and a sulfide compound. The first component forms a silicon oxide glass at a concentration of 30-99 mol.%. The second component (10-15 mol.%) is active for Raman amplification, and has a non-null concentration. Independent claims are included for: (1) a wave guide; (2) an optical amplifier; and (3) a laser source.
