A method for controlling an air conditioner of a car is provided to control the air conditioner by recognizing input by a continuously pressed button in a max a/c mode as one press. A method for controlling an air conditioner of a car includes the steps of: if a max a/c mode is selected, turning on the air conditioner and controlling the air conditioner in an indoor mode(REC); if a REC button pressed continuously, recognizing it as one press, and then waiting for another input by another button; if a user switched the maximum mode into another mode, automatically switching into an outdoor mode or an indoor mode selected in a mode before the maximum cooling mode by using an outdoor or indoor parameter value in a stored former mode; and neglecting the input by the pressed button and waiting for an input by another button.
