An earphone device connected to an external device and an operating method thereof are provided to decrease a power consumption by stopping a reproduction of sound, when the earphone is not used. An earphone device connected to an external device includes a cable(121), an ear jack(124), an earphone(122), a skin contact sensor(123), and a controller. The ear jack is arranged on one end of the cable and electrically inserted into an ear jack hole in the external device. The earphone is implemented on the other end of the cable and includes a speaker unit which is inserted into ears. The skin contact sensor is implemented on the earphone and detects whether the earphone is inserted into the ears. The controller determines whether the earphone is in use by using the skin contact sensor and controls the overall components of the earphone device. |
