Glass fibers coated with a sizing composition (I) are claimed, where (I) contains (a) 25-90 wt. % film former(s), (b) 3-25 wt. % coupling agent(s) and (c) 2-18 wt. % nanoparticles. Independent claims are included for: (1) an aqueous sizing composition for producing the coated glass fibers, which contains (a) 1.5-15 (preferably 2.5-10)% film former(s), (b) 0.15-4 (preferably 0.25-2.5)% coupling agent(s), (c) 0.1-4 (preferably 0.25-2.5)% nanoparticles, (d) 0-4 (preferably 2.5-10)% lubricant(s), (e) 0-2 (preferably 0.05-2)% dispersant(s) and (f) 0-2 (preferably 0.05-2)% viscosity regulator(s); (2) the production of (I'), by: (i) forming an aqueous dispersion of (c) (preferably in presence of (e). (ii) introducing the other components of (I') into water to form an emulsion and (iii) mixing the dispersion with the emulsion; and (3) a composite comprising (in)organic material(s) and reinforcing glass fibers, where all or some of the glass fibers are coated with (I). |
