Use of a composition containing bacterial cells or an extract thereof wherein said bacterial cells consist of non-denatured killed Mycobacterium bovis BCG cells, and said composition is able to induce a modulation of the immune response against a self antigen or an allergen, for the preparation of a medicament for the prevention and/or the treatment of a disease selected from the group consisting of autoimmune disease and allergy.
