A method of mounting a support belt (30) in a lift installation, where the lift cage is underslung by the support belt, is disclosed. Mounting steps are carried out in several shaft regions from a work platform. Cage deflecting rollers (24) supported by the work platform are positioned in a lower shaft region, and the support belt is led around the rollers and stored in the region of the work platform. The work platform is then brought to an upper shaft region and the support belt is fastened at a first end to a first connecting point, then led by a second end around a traction pulley, left as a loop in the lower shaft region and connected there by a counterweight deflecting means with a counterweight, and attached at the second end to a second connecting point. While the work platform is in the lower shaft region a track-jumping protection means is mounted in the region of the cage deflecting roller for protecting the support belt in a radial direction and a lateral direction against track jumping.
