#CMT# #/CMT# The sensor has a drive wheel (3) mounted in rotation with a rotating shaft of a motor vehicle, and a component (13) placed above a bipolar magnet (11) for measuring relative angular position of a measuring wheel (9). The drive wheel is divided into a specific number of uniformly distributed segments such that each absolute angular position of the shaft corresponds to a pair of values formed by the relative angular position and a segment position. A processing unit (33) calculates the absolute angular position of the shaft based on the relative angular position and positions of the segments. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Used for being housed in a box for measuring absolute angular position of a rotating shaft e.g. steering column, of a motor vehicle, over a rotating stroke of several rotation cycles (claimed). #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The sensor has fewer encumbrances and can be formed from standard components, thus reducing the cost of the sensor.
