An apparatus and a method for displaying traffic information are provided to enhance user convenience by representing the color of traffic information icon using different colors according to traffic information conditions. An apparatus for displaying traffic information includes an RDS(Radio Data System) module(120), a controller(130), a color processing unit(140), and an icon generating unit(150). The RDS module receives traffic information. The controller calculates distance between the generation position of the traffic information and the current position of a vehicle, and determines whether or not the traffic information is generated and the traffic information is generated on a traveling route. The color processing unit generates different color information according to the determination result and the distance. The icon generating unit generates a traffic information icon with color and distance information using the processed color information and calculated distance.
