<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric parking brake system capable of releasing the parking brake even in the case of trouble that the tension detected by a tension sensor can not be used. <P>SOLUTION: In this electric parking brake system, even if trouble is detected, in the case wherein an electric motor can be operated, control for releasing the brake is performed in response to a request to release the brake (S6-8). In that case, when the tension sensor is operated normally, control for releasing the brake is similarly performed with the normal time by using a detection value of the tension sensor (S7). When trouble is caused in the tension sensor, control for releasing the brake is performed based on the real current flowing in the motor (S8).
