<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem, in a spontaneous light display device, that an increase of power consumption is also eventually resulted when screen luminance is enhanced in order to make visibility higher. <P>SOLUTION: The power consumption reduction apparatus has a gray scale conversion section of a grain size area adaptation type which converts the gray scale information for an n1 bit component corresponding to the low gray scale area to the gray scale information for an m1(<n1) bit component, converts the gray scale information for the m2 bit component corresponding to an intermediate grain size area to the gray scale information for the m2(≤n2) bit component, and converts the gray scale information for the n3 bit component corresponding to the high grain size area to the gray scale information for the m3(<n3) bit component, and a gray scale conversion section which subjects the an input video signal to gray scale conversion so as to satisfy m1≤m2 and m3≤m2, and n1+n2+n3>m1+m2+m3. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
