PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal ion-responding fluorescent protein recognizing the presence of a metal ion and/or its concentration by detecting the metal ion and developing its fluorescence. SOLUTION: Disclosed is a metal ion-responding fluorescent protein comprising a metal ion-responding site and a fluorescent site, wherein the fluorescent site develops fluorescence by that the metal ion bonds to the metal ion-responding site.
