PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user who uses a television receiver to surely and easily confirm information on a program as a candidate for video recording detected by a video recording device (a program considered not to be reserved for video recording), and also indicate the video recording in a video recording system wherein the television receiver and video recording device are connected to each other. SOLUTION: The television receiver X requests the video recording device Y through a CEC line 42 to perform processing for retrieving a program as a program for video recording whose video recording is not reserved by using program reservation information, receives video recording candidate information including information on the program as the candidate for video recording from the video recording device Y through the CEC line 42, and makes a video display unit 5 perform the OSD display of the received video recording candidate information. In the display state, the television receiver makes a choice of whether the program as the candidate for video recording is recorded according to an operation input from a remote controller 8, and instructs the video recording device Y through the CEC line 42 to record the program selected to be recorded.
