PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanner capable of controlling a beam spot in a geometrical optics way to be not larger than a fixed size even in the application of a high output LD of a large stripe width, a multi-beam LD, a two-dimensionally arrayed LD, or a surface emitting laser. SOLUTION: In the optical scanner having a relation A<B where A is a length in a direction x orthogonal to the optical axis Z of a light emitting source 30 and B is a length in a direction y orthogonal to the optical axis Z and the direction x; assuming that an installation angleγis a deviation from the installation angleγ0, around the Z axis of the light emitting source 30, where the direction x is the scanning direction in which the absolute value of a traverse magnification is large between the light emitting source 30 and a surface to be scanned, and where the direction y is a scanning direction in which this absolute value is small; the light emitting source is installed so that a relationγ<45°may be maintained.
