PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wire tension sensing device capable of being mounted on a wire cut electric discharge machine at low cost and with a saved space. SOLUTION: From a wire electrode supplying part, a wire electrode 20 is fed through a wire path which follows an upper guide head, a discharge machining part, a lower guide head, a roller 10 for changing the direction, and a wire collecting device. A strain gauge 14 is installed on a supporting member 13 of the roller 10, and the strain generated in the supporting member 13 by a force applied from the wire electrode 20 to the roller 10 is measured by the strain gauge 14 to serve for sensing the tension of the wire electrode 20. The roller 10 is furnished with a groove 10a which accepts the wire electrode 20. It may also be accepted that strain gauge is installed on a die guide installed at the upper and/or lower guide head to serve for measuring the wire tension. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
