PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for manufacturing a gear, which securely perform phase matching of a workpiece and a die by a simple structure. SOLUTION: When transferring a workpiece W from an extrusion step to a punching step in the manufacturing process, recessed parts 64 of the work W are fitted into projected parts 46 of a punching die 41, so that the phase of a spline 62a of the workpiece W and the phase of a second gear-tooth-forming part 43a match each other. By contactingly sliding the spline 62a on the second gear-tooth-forming part 43a in the above matching state, burrs B are removed. The phase matching is thereby securely performed by a simple structure without using a conventional rotation mechanism, the maintenance of the apparatus is simplified, and the generation of troubles, such as breaking off or distortion of the spline 62a, is surely prevented, so that the manufacturing cost of the gear is reduced.
