<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery which has a high discharging capacity density and can improve charge/discharge cycle characteristics, and to provide its manufacturing method. <P>SOLUTION: The battery is provided with a cathode active substance containing a sodium transition metal oxide and a lithium transition metal oxide or a cathode active substance containing a sodium transition metal oxide with lithium added (hereinafter called as a lithium-added sodium transition metal oxide) and a lithium transition metal oxide. In these cathode active substances, the sodium transition metal oxide or the lithium-added sodium transition metal oxide and the lithium transition metal oxide are mixed, or the lithium transition metal oxide is coated with the sodium transition metal oxide or the lithium-added sodium transition metal oxide.
