PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic disk device which prevents the electrostatic discharge between a seal tape and an HDA and does not damage an HDA element section, and to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: The magnetic disk device has a head disk assembly provided with a metallic base 10 and cover 20 housing a magnetic head structure and the seal tape 30 which is stuck to the outer peripheral surface of the base and the cover, and has a lower elastic insulating layer 31, a metallic layer 32, and an upper elastic insulating layer 33 successively from the base and cover side, and hermetically seals the abutting parts of the base and the cover. The outermost layer of the seal tape is provided with an antistatic layer 34 which covers the lower elastic insulating layer, the metallic layer, and the upper elastic insulating layer and connects to the metallic layer in a conductive manner.
