PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a useful new compound as a constituting component of an organic electroluminescent element, and the practical organic electroluminescent element using a low driving voltage, and also having less leak electric current, by using the compound. SOLUTION: This material for the electroluminescent element is a fluoranthene compound expressed by formula: A-L-B (1) [wherein, A, B are each a monovalent group having the fluoranthene structure expressed by formula (2); provided that the A binds with the L in formula (1) with a carbon selected from 7th to 10th position; the B binds with the L of formula (1) with a carbon selected from 1st to 6th position; and the L is a single bond, a substituted or unsubstituted 6-40C arylene group, a divalent group derived from a substituted or unsubstituted 6-40C arylamine, a divalent group derived from a substituted or unsubstituted 3-40C heterocyclic ring, or a substituted or unsubstituted ethenylene].
