PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively provide a woody composite base material excellent in surface smoothness and surface hardness as a base material, hard to cause warpage in its longitudinal and lateral directions, hard to produce a gap in the joint between adjacent floor materials after execution in a case used as a floor base material and also excellent in dimensional stability. SOLUTION: The composite base material is obtained by stacking and bonding a sheet, which is obtained by dividing a medium specific gravity fiberboard in its thickness direction, to the surface of a woody board. A hard reinforcing layer is interposed between the sheet and the woody board and linear grooves with predetermined depth are provided to the back side of the composite base material. Each of the linear grooves is set to the depth reaching the vicinity of the undersurface of the reinforcing layer from the top surface of each groove and provided in one of the direction almost parallel to the longitudinal direction of the composite base material and the direction almost orthogonal to the longitudinal direction.
