The invention refers to a fluorescent lamp with external transparent electrodes, characterized in that said electrodes are made of conductive and transparent material in the form of a thin film, which is deposited directly on the glass envelope of the lamp or deposited on a transparent flexible substrate which is wrapped around the envelope of the lamp, said material consisting preferably of tin oxide (SnO2), which may be deposited by a vapor decomposition process, using tin tetrachloride and methanol as the reactants for the chemical deposition reaction and an inert carrier gas for transporting the vapors of these reagents.
