The transponder has a storage area (1) assigned to an access-password. The access-password is reassigned to a characteristic bit, where a length and/or a structure of the access-password is adjustable by the characteristic bit. The storage area is partitioned into storage part areas (I-N), where the access-password is assigned to each storage part area. The access-password of the storage area and/or the storage part areas is secured by a general password with the set characteristic bit. The password is secured by an asymmetrical coding procedure. An independent claim is also included for a method for access to a storage area and/or storage part area of the transponder secured by an access password.
