PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a data transfer error between a semiconductor memory device and a system. SOLUTION: A semiconductor memory device having a data input/output error detecting function includes: a memory cell block; a data input part performing the prescribed signal processing so as to record data input from the outside to the memory cell block; a first wide band data line connected between the data input part and the memory cell block; a data output part performing the prescribed signal processing so as to output data output from the memory cell block to the outside of the semiconductor memory device; a second wide band data line connected between the memory cell block and the data output part; a multiplexing part selecting data of the first wide band data line or the second wide band data line by a control signal and outputting it; and an error detection code generating part generating an error detection code consisting of a plurality of bits defining presence/absence of the occurrence of errors of data output from the multiplexing part and outputting it to the outside of the semiconductor memory device.
