PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent information that is output to an external device from an information output device from being used for a purpose other than an original purpose, and from giving disadvantages to the producer and copyright holder of the information.

SOLUTION: When it is recognized that the external device operates according to copy control information, digital information is output with the original quality. When it is not recognized that the external device operates according to the copy control information, copy-limited information is not output. The method can also be applied to, for example, the operation of the output board of a personal computer.
