<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optimum color reproduction to an output image data. <P>SOLUTION: A color signal in a color reproduction region on the input side is changed into one in an intermediate color reproduction region, and an evaluation function is determined on the basis of the color-distribution information of an output image data.
