PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform matching with high level of accuracy, even if a geometric distortion between input images is large in matching digital images. SOLUTION: In local-area matching using pyramidal structuring, arbitrary deformation (rubber sheeting) is carried out so that an image coordinate value of a template image may approximate to the image coordinate value of a matching target image based on a matching result in a matching step in a pre-stage in each matching step.
