PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain the occurrence of a short circuit in a plasma generator, in an exhaust emission control system of an internal combustion engine having the plasma generator arranged in an exhaust passage and generating plasma in exhaust gas. SOLUTION: This exhaust emission control system is provided with an exhaust emission control device and a reducing agent supply means for supplying a reducing agent to the exhaust emission control device, separately from the plasma generator. When supplying the reducing agent to the exhaust emission control device (S101), an impression of voltage on the plasma generator is stopped or the voltage impressed on the plasma generator is reduced (S104).
