The invention provides an ink jet recording medium comprising a support and an ink receiving layer provided on at least one surface of the support. In one embodiment, a center line average roughness average Ra of a surface of the ink-receiving layer, measured with a 2.5 mm measuring length and 0.8 mm cut-off value, is in a range of 0.3 mum or more but less than 0.8 mum. In another embodiment, a center line average roughness average Ra of the surface of the support measured with a 2.5 mm measuring length and 0.8 mm cut-off value, is preferably in a range of 0.3 mum or more but less than 1.0 mum. An image clarity of the surface of the ink receiving layer is preferably in a range of 2 to 40%.
