The system has a bar shaped setting instrument with a distal end to which an impact plate is provided. A proximal end of the instrument is inserted and clamped into a central opening of an acetabulum (1). An end support plate (3) is suspended from the instrument to the proximal end, and is placed on an edge of the acetabulum. The support plate has a projection/groove (4) at a circumference, which corresponds to a projection/groove (5) at an edge of the acetabulum. The projection/grooves combination provides a defined positioning of the instrument to the acetabulum.
