<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting tool which does not cause crucial eroded abrasion in a tool even if it reacts with a workpiece material, has a long service life, and exerts excellent abrasion resistance, tenacity, etc. <P>SOLUTION: The cutting tool is formed of a sintered body containing alumina and silicon carbide whisker in an amount of not less than 25 vol.% and not more than 40 vol.%, and the silicon carbide whisker is orientated in the sintered body such that its major axis is in parallel with a rake face. Herein an R horning formed along a ridge between the rake face and a flank, satisfies the following conditions: X≥Y and 0.015≤X≤0.045 (unit: mm), wherein a dimension of the R honing 7 on the side of the rake face 5 is represented by X, and a dimension of the same on the side of the flank 6 is represented by Y, respectively. A machined surface of the R honing has a surface roughness R<SB>a</SB>of 0.1 or less.
