PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a method for screening whether a test substance has the effect of lowering blood cholesterol level specifically, without causing adverse effects as in the case of LXR (liver X receptor), and to provide a method for selecting a compound capable of specifically lowering the blood cholesterol level, without causing the adverse effects, as in the case of the LXR. SOLUTION: This method for screening a substance having an effect of lowering the cholesterol level is provided by elucidating the mechanism of blood cholesterol reduction associated with the molecules of ABC G5 and ABC G8 that belong to the family of ATP-bonding cassette protein (ABC), which is known to carry out the function of discharging cholesterol into bile, by forming a heterodimer and develop it on the surface of cells; and as a result, showing that it is possible to solve the problems.
