SULFONATED AND PHOSPHONATED POLYMER BLENDS

The following are claimed: (1) blends of sulfonated, partially sulfonated, or non-fluorinated aromatic polymers or oligomers Ar_m(SO₂X)_n or (Ar_F)_m(SO₂X)_n (Ar=any aryl radical, Ar_F=any partially fluorinated aryl radical (polymer or oligomer repetition unit), m=4-1000, n=0.1m to 4m, X=HaI, OH, OMe, NR₁R₂, OR₁, wherein Me=any metal cation or ammonium cation, and R₁ and/or R₂ represent/s hydrogen or any aryl or alkyl radical), wherein the sulfonate group is linked directly to the aromate or to the aromatic backbone via an alkyl or perfluoroalkyl spacer, and phosphonated polymers or oligomers Ar_m(POX₂)_n or (Ar_F)_m(POX₂)_n, wherein the phosphonate group is linked directly to the aromate or to the aromatic backbone via an alkyl or perfluoroalkyl spacer; (2) aromatic polymers modified with both sulfonate groups -SO₂X and phosphonate groups -POX₂ which are linked directly to the aromatic backbone or to the polymer backbone at the end of an alkyl or perfluoroalkyl side chain, wherein the phosphonic acid and sulfonic acid groups as well as units that are not modified with said cation exchanger groups can be arranged statistically or in blocks: (2a) statistical copolymers: (Ar_m(SO₂X)_n)-stat-(Ar_o(POX₂)_p)-stat-Ar_q or: ((Ar_F)_m(SO₂X)_n)-stat-((Ar_F)_O(POX₂)_P)- stat-(Ar_F)_q, wherein n, o, p=0.1-1000. Statistic copolymers of said type, which are composed of partially fluorinated and non-fluorinated polymer repetition units, are also possible; (2b) block copolymers: (Ar_m(SO₂X)_n)-block-(Ar_o(POX₂)_p)-block-Ar_q or: ((Ar_F)_m(SO₂X)_n)- block- ((ArF)_o(POX₂)_p)-block-(Ar_F)_q, wherein n, o, p=0.1-1000. Block polymers of said type, which are composed of partially fluorinated and non-fluorinated polymer repetition units, are also possible; (3) blends of polymer blends (1) and copolymers (2a) or (2b), wherein the blend components can also be mutually crosslinked.
