PROCESS FOR PRODUCTION OF HYDROGENATED POLYMERS AND HYDROGENATED POLYMERS

A process for the production of hydrogenated polymers through the step of conducting ring-opening metathesis polymerization of a cycloolefin in the presence of a ruthenium carbene complex and hydrogenation of the obtained ring-opening metathesis polymer successively to obtain a hydrogenated polymer, by which a hydrogenated polymer extremely reduced in the content of residual ruthenium resulting from the ruthenium carbene complex can be obtained easily and economically. A process for the production of hydrogenated polymers, characterized by conducting ring-opening metathesis polymerization of a cyclic monoolefin and/or a cyclic diolefin in the presence of a ruthenium carbene complex, hydrogenating the obtained ring-opening metathesis polymer, and bringing the obtained hydrogenated polymer into contact with a poor solvent for the hydrogenated polymer in the presence of dissolved hydrogen to precipitate the polymer. The poor solvent is preferably an alcohol having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, a ketone having 3 to 6 carbon atoms, or the like.
