A method for controlling a space heating/cooling system, especially for buildings, has a main control valve (3) for supplying the space heater (19) directly with hot water, and a parallel control valve (2) with a thermostatic control for the space heater. To operate the control system for cooling a third parallel valve (5) controls the water flow below a selected temperature, i.e. at levels outside the range of the hot flow control valves.
