PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device being a hold type image display device using a backlight as a light source, which enables a user to recognize natural movements by resolving irregular movements in a 3:2 pull-down system and reduces blur caused by a retinal after-image effect due to user's eye's following when displaying a telecine-converted video image signal in the 3:2 pull-down system. SOLUTION: The hold type image display device using a backlight 11 as the light source includes a means 8 which controls a turning-on/off pattern and period of the backlight at a frame rate different from a frame rate of image signal processing by a LSI and data write to a display device 7 without changing this frame rate when displaying the video image signal telecine-converted by the 3:2 pull-down system.
