PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for monitoring the furnace bottom of a fusion furnace, capable of precisely detecting abnormalities of the furnace bottom, even when the absolute temperature of the furnace bottom is difficult to be detected accurately. SOLUTION: This device for monitoring the furnace bottom of the fusion furnace for abnormalities of furnace bottom refractory materials, in an electric fusion furnace 10 having a furnace bottom part arranged with the refractory materials 18, 19 in its inside, and coated with a casing 17 in its outside, is provided with a thermometer 30 for measuring the time-sequence temperature change in the casing 17; and a controller 40 for detecting the abnormality of the furnace bottom, based on the measured temperature. The maximum allowed variation of the casing temperature has been preliminarily set in the controller 40, based on the correlation between a refractory corrosion amount and the casing temperature variations in the fusion furnace, the temperature variation of the casing 17 is calculated, based on the measured temperature from the thermometer 30, and the abnormality of the furnace bottom is determined, when the temperature variation exceeds the maximum allowable variation.
