This invention provides an ionizing device which can enhance ion density in ionizing a sample molecule using soft X rays. The ionizing device (1) comprises a body part (21), a soft X-ray tube (3), and electrodes (4), (5). The body part (21) comprises an ionization chamber (2) which extends in a predetermined axis direction to ionizing the sample molecule, an introduction port (22) for introducing a sample molecule and a base gas into the ionizing chamber (2) (in which the ionizing chamber (2) and the introduction port (22) may be provided separately from each other), and an exhaust port (23) for discharging a sample molecule ion. The soft X ray tube (3) comprises an electron source (31) and a target part (32) for receiving electrons from the electron source (31) to generate a soft X ray. The electrodes (4), (5) are provided respectively on the one end side and other end side of the ionizing chamber (2). The soft X ray outgoing axis direction of the soft X ray tube (3) crosses the above predetermined axis direction. An electrode (32b) and the electrode (5) provided in the target part (32) are shortcircuited from each other. The center axis direction of the introduction port (22) crosses the soft X ray outgoing axis direction.
