A car navigation apparatus is provided to improve multimedia reproducing performance of the navigation apparatus by using an extension module having an embedded multimedia-dedicated controller. A car navigation apparatus includes a main body(100) and an extension module(200) for reproducing multimedia files. The main body includes an RF(Radio Frequency) signal processor(105), a memory(107), an audio controller(109), a video controller(111), an input device(113), a display unit(101), and a controller(120). The extension module includes a system controller(220), a system memory(210), a memory unit(230), a video circuit(201), and an audio circuit(203). The memory unit stores multimedia data. The video and audio circuits convert the multimedia data into video and audio signals, respectively, and supply the video and audio signals to the video and audio controller, respectively. When the extension module is coupled with the main body, the multimedia data in the extension module is reproduced by the display unit. |
