PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contour correction circuit for forming a contour suppressed in out-of-focus even though the contour is in a slanting direction. SOLUTION: With respect to a high frequency emphasis target interpolated pixel included in an input video signal, the interpolated pixel and pixels adjacent to the interpolated pixel are read from the input video signal, a line memory 1 and a line memory 2 and stored in an adjacent pixel storing part 3, a high frequency emphasis pixel selecting part 6 selects a pixel in a high frequency emphasis direction perpendicular to the interpolation direction of the interpolated pixel read from an interpolation direction data memory 4, a tap pixel for a high frequency emphasis generating part 8 generates a tap pixel for high frequency emphasis by horizontal interpolation by an interpolation coefficient calculated by a horizontal interpolation coefficient calculating part 7, a high frequency component calculating part 9 calculates high frequency components from a difference between the pixel value of the high frequency emphasis pixel and the pixel value of the tap pixel for high frequency emphasis, and a high frequency component adding part 10 adds the high frequency components and outputs a contour correction video signal.
