PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microstep-driven drive unit for a stepping motor and a drive method therefor, capable of reducing or eliminating vibration or noise at all times regardless of motor rotational speed, rotation and stopping. SOLUTION: A PWM signal generation circuit 4 generates PWM signals controlled so as to obtain the maximum value of a drive current sinewave flowing into coils A, B. A mask signal generation circuit 14 generates mask signals for masking the PWM signal every step so as to become a predetermined drive current ratio in response to every step stepping-driven between the coils A and B. AND circuits 10, 13 generate an intermittent PWM signal every coil by masking the PWM signals with the mask signals. Based on the intermittent PWM signals and exciting signals for indicating the operational mode of the stepping motor, a micro-off controller 11 controls H bridge circuits 2, 3 so as to obtain the drive current ratio and the direction of the drive current corresponding to the indicated rotational direction.
