<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display for obtaining high contrast and low chrominance variation without impairing the advantage of a liquid crystal panel. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display includes: a first polarizing plate 9; the liquid crystal panel comprising a pair of glass substrates 4 having a transparent electrode 3 on at least one inner surface facing each other, and a liquid crystal layer 1 sandwiched between the glass substrates 4; and a second polarizing plate 9 in the order. An optical compensation film 8 is provided with: a mono-axial phase difference film 7 on one face of a transparent substrate 6; and a cholesteric phase difference film 5 on the other face, between the first polarizing plate 9 and the liquid crystal panel and between the liquid crystal panel and the second polarizing plate 9. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
