PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric dimming filter by which a high contrast can be obtained with a simple configuration. SOLUTION: An electric signal is applied by a power source 16 to a laminar first high molecular gel 4 dispersed with minute particles 18 having black absorptivity to control the amount of the charges getting into and out from the first high molecular gel 4 from and into a second high molecular gel 5 so as to change the volumetric density of the first high molecular gel 4, thereby change the mutual distance of the minute particles 18. The amount of light passage can be varied by the mutual distance of the minute particles 18, and the high contrast can be obtained with the simple configuration without using, for example, a polarizing plate or the like.
