PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stroke characteristic variable engine having a high degree of freedom of design, capable of optimizing torque in both rotational directions required for driving a shaft, by imparting bias torque to an eccentric shaft, without enlarging in the axial direction of the eccentric shaft. SOLUTION: This stroke characteristic variable engine has a lower link 5 rotatably journaled to a crank pin 9 of a crankshaft 6, an upper link 4 connecting the lower link 5 and a piston 3, and a control link 11 supported by an engine 1 body and connecting the eccentric shaft 12 and the lower link 5, and changes a piston stroke by rotating the eccentric shaft 12, and is constituted by interposing a compression coil spring device 21 between a web connecting part 18 extended from the eccentric shaft 12 and a body side connecting part 20 formed on the engine 1 body side.
