PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a helicene derivative having an extremely stable helical asymmetry, equipped with a large optical anisotropy and expected to be developed in various uses, a method for producing the same and a triyne derivative becoming an intermediate of the same. SOLUTION: This helicene derivative is expressed by formula (I) [wherein, at least one side of X<SP>1</SP>, Y<SP>1</SP>and X<SP>2</SP>, Y<SP>2</SP>are each present and the X<SP>1</SP>, X<SP>2</SP>, Y<SP>1</SP>, Y<SP>2</SP>are each independently any of CH<SB>2</SB>, C=O, O, N, S, P, B and Si; also the N, S, P, B and Si may be connected with any of the CH<SB>2</SB>, C=O and O; and E<SP>1</SP>, E<SP>2</SP>are each independently any of H, an alkyl, an aryl, an allyl, benzyl, an alkenyl, an akynyl, an alkyl ether, an alkyl ester, an alkyl ketone, a heterocyclic ring or the derivative of them].
