PROCESS FOR PRODUCTION OF HIGHLY PURE QUATERNARY AMMONIUM SALT

A process for producing a highly pure quaternary ammonium salt, comprising the steps of: (1) adding a quaternary ammonium hydroxide salt or a quaternary ammonium carbonate salt to a quaternary ammonium salt containing a protonic acid salt of a tertiary amine as an impurity to neutralize the protonic acid salt of the tertiary amine with the quaternary ammonium hydroxide salt or the quaternary ammonium carbonate salt, thereby converting the protonic acid salt of the tertiary amine into a tertiary amine and water and, at the same time, also converting the quaternary ammonium hydroxide salt or the quaternary ammonium carbonate salt into a quaternary ammonium salt; and (2) removing the tertiary amine and water from the reaction system.
