The scanner has a mechanical-electrical converter (2) for converting pivoting movement of a scanning arm (4) into an electrical signal. Scanning bodies (8, 10) with different shapes e.g. rounded shape and conical shape, arranged at a free end of the arm are positioned in a pivoting direction of the arm. A moving unit moves the converter to guide the body (8) along a surface (14) of a workspace (16). The converter is held about 180 degrees around an axis, which runs perpendicular to a rotational axis (6) of the arm and runs towards the arm, so that the bodies are brought to a scanning position.
